Ajuricaba - The Last King of the Amazon
by Ademar Vieira, Jucyland Júnior, Tieê Santos, Alex Souza
Description
Ajuricaba was a native Brazilian leader who held the Portuguese colonization along the Negro River in the Amazon for five years in the 1720s. His resistance network united enemy nations, built forts, acquired guns, and strategically attacked important villages and settlements until his death in 1728. Ajuricaba became a historical and almost mythological figure in the years following his campaign, and the city of Manaus, in the Brazilian Amazon, was named after his nation and in his homage.
This graphic novel is the result of extensive research by Ademar Vieira, which included recovering Manao words, and interviews with historians and writers.
